Turkey Swamp Park Freehold, New Jersey
This 2,263 acre wooded park was acquired and developed with campers in mind. A major attraction is the 17-acre lake for fishing, boating, and ice-skating. The park also features miles of hiking and biking trails including a fitness trail, an archery range and playgrounds.
Located at the northern end of the Pine Barrens, Turkey Swamp’s terrain is relatively level and the 17 acre lake adds scenic interest. A walk through Turkey Swamp reveals a primitive wilderness. Visitors to the park can fish for bass, catfish, and bluegills either from the shore or from kayaks, rowboats, canoes and paddleboats available for rental in summer.
Wooded campsites include electrical service and water service and are available from April 1 – November 15. Modern restrooms with hot showers and laundry, a self serve sanitary dump station for campers with holding tanks, fire rings for charcoal cooking and campfires, picnic tables, and a playground can be found within the campground.
Turkey Swamp Park features an archery range that is open year round during posted park hours. This stand-up range features seven shooting stations, varying from 15 to 40 yards. Each station is composed of two excelsior bales.
The park’s name comes from the historical label for Adelphia and it’s high water table that forms sphagnum bogs where ever the land dips down.
