Spruce Run Recreation Area Clinton, New Jersey
Spruce Run Recreation Area is a 1,290-acre New Jersey state recreation area located in Union Township and Clinton Township in Hunterdon County, New Jersey.
Surrounded by rolling hills Spruce Run Recreation Area includes trails for hiking, biking and jogging, open fields to set up for volleyball, soccer, etc. Winter activities include icefishing and cross-country skiing.
The reservoir was one of the first water supply facilities to be constructed and operated by the state and covers 1,290 acres with 15 miles of shoreline for recreation. Spruce Run is the third largest reservoir in the state after Round Valley and Wanaque reservoirs.
The Spruce Run campground is located on a peninsula in the Spruce Run Reservoir. Several sites are located along the waters edge and many others enjoy a view of the reservoir. There are 67 tent and trailer sites and three shelters with fire rings and picnic tables. Modern restrooms and showers are within walking distance. Trailer sanitary dump station is open April through October.
The reservoir is a popular destination for motor boating (10hp limit), sailing (30 feet above the water line height limit), canoe/kayaking, and windsurfing. The park has its own boat launch and car-top launch areas. Boat rentals are available seasonally. A sandy beach with a bathhouse and great fishing are just a few highlights that make this recreation area a popular destination.
