Outer Banks OBX, North Carolina
The Outer Banks (OBX) is a 200-mile-long string of narrow peninsulas and barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina and a small portion of Virginia stretching from Carova to Ocracoke. OBX is a popular vacation destination with open-sea beaches, deep sea fishing, shipwreck diving sites and state parks.
Jockey’s Ridge State Park, located in Nags Head, is the home of the highest living sand dune on the East Coast with peaks at more than 90 feet. Hike to the top through the sandy trail or use the 360 foot boardwalk. History buffs will enjoy learning about the first flight of Orville and Wilbur Wright. Visit the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills to see the 60 foot monument in the shape of an airplane tail.
Wake up and hit the beach for sunrise and a long walk along the ocean. It’s a very peaceful time of day when the waters are mostly calm and the beach is deserted. Watch sunset soundside and enjoy some great local seafood at restaurants along the soundside points. OBX is a great family vacation destination full of activities or just relaxing on the beach!
